Biography
Sean focuses on U.S. and international patent drafting and prosecution, patentability and freedom to operate analysis, and due diligence. Sean has over 10 years of research expertise in areas including cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, bioinformatics, and kinase and biomarker assay development. He has assisted in managing clients ranging from start-ups to research universities and publicly traded corporations.
Prior to joining the firm, Sean received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Emory University in 2021 under Dr. Nicholas Seyfried, Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Scientific Director of the Emory Integrated Proteomics Core, an internationally renowned expert in the field of mass spectrometry. At Emory, Sean was awarded a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Scholarship in 2019. Sean was also awarded the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Translational Research in Neurology Training Grant in 2019, and his research was sponsored by an NIH Training Grant in Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology in 2018.
Sean’s doctoral research pioneered the development of novel proteomic approaches to identify post-translational modifications in proteins that aggregate in Alzheimer’s disease, greatly enhancing protein coverage and post-translational modification identifications overall with the use of mass spectrometry. Sean also studied the regulation of RNA-binding protein aggregation by phosphorylation. Dr. Kundinger is the first author of two peer-reviewed journal articles and co-author of six articles published in journals including Cell, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Proteome Research, Scientific Data and Developmental Biology. Research Sean has contributed to has been featured on ALZForum, Scientific American, SciTechDaily and ScienceDaily.
Sean also previously interned with Emory University’s Office of Technology Transfer, gaining experience with the office’s patent group.
