Electrical Patent Specialist Joins Firm

David Cornett has joined Meunier Carlin & Curfman as Of Counsel. David has an extensive background in electrical engineering with particular interest in software, automation, controls and energy related technologies. He is a registered patent attorney.
David’s legal experience lies in patent preparation and prosecution, opinion drafting and client counseling on various intellectual property matters including patent portfolio management and strategy; claim strategy; competitor analysis; licensing; transactional intellectual property provisions in sales, purchase and merger agreements; confidentiality agreements; and trade secret, copyright and trademark protection. His technical expertise includes computer hardware and software; automation and controls, renewable, remote monitoring and diagnostics, metering, memory, telecommunications, video and various other computer-related, software and electromechanical technologies.
David joins Meunier Carlin & Curfman from General Electric Company (GE) where he has spent the last three years as in-house counsel in their intellectual property, patent and procurement division. While there, David has drafted, filed and prosecuted patent applications for GE. He prepared applications on their software and computer-implemented inventions. Additionally, he served as intellectual property counsel for GE Intelligent Platforms. In this role, he advised and counseled the three sub-businesses of Intelligent Platforms; Control & Communications Systems, Software & Services and Military & Aerospace. David was previously a patent attorney with Ballard Spahr, Needle & Rosenberg and Alston & Bird.
David received his B.S.E.E. from the University of Kentucky. He received both his M.B.A. and his J.D. from the University of Louisville. Prior to becoming an attorney, David was an electrical engineer for both Louisville Gas & Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company in various capacities, including power distribution engineering, power plant construction and power delivery engineering.
