Biography

Jessica Keesee’s practice focuses on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, due diligence, and portfolio management within the areas of mechanical, electrical, and medical device technologies. Jessica works with a variety of mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, including those related to power generation, engine technology, automotive safety systems, industrial manufacturing, refrigeration systems, and paper making, as well as wireless communications, computer and network architecture, software design, and magnetic and optical storage systems.

Her medical and biotechnology experience includes medical and analytic devices such as radiation therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery equipment used in diagnosing and treating cancer and brain disorders. Jessica is also experienced in neuromodulation systems used for pain management, catheter delivered heart valve systems, vascular and non-vascular stents, minimally invasive surgical instruments, spinal implants, biopsy devices, brachytherapy systems, rapid contrast therapy, and devices used for patient imaging and real-time target monitoring.

Jessica also advises clients on U.S. and foreign design patent protection, particularly in the areas of graphical user interfaces and animations, medical devices, vehicle interiors, consumer product packaging, beverage containers, and novelty/toys.

During law she worked as a patent agent and also as a law clerk in the Technology Transfer Office of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While in law school, Jessica served as President and Secretary of the Intellectual Property Law Society, and was the recipient of a Georgia State University College of Law Intellectual Property Law Scholarship. Jessica presented a paper at the Popular Culture Association Conference on “Trademark Protection of Vulgar and Scandalous Marks.” She was the Features Editor and a contributing writer for The Docket.

Jessica is a Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee for the Georgia IP Alliance (GIPA) working on initiatives to advance the efforts of diverse undergraduate and law students in the Atlanta area. Jessica also serves on her firm’s recruiting and diversity committees.

Jessica is a pro bono attorney with KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) Atlanta where she represents unaccompanied children seeking asylum in the United States. In 2020, Jessica was recognized by KIND as a Pro Bono Attorney of the Year for her work with their child separation team. Jessica has volunteered with the Atlanta Science Festival (2017-2019), where she helped coordinate and facilitate an “Invention Protection” workshop geared for children ages 5-12 where they explored how to protect their creations through patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Jessica has separately presented numerous Girl Scout IP badge workshops with individual troops. She is also a frequent lecturer of intellectual property topics at Georgia Tech.

Jessica is actively involved with the Panhellenic community at Georgia Tech. Since 2004, Jessica has served as the Chapter Advisor for the Alpha Gamma Delta chapter at Georgia Tech. As the Chapter Advisor, Jessica chairs the executive board for the chapter and sits on the housing corporation board. In this role, Jessica’s time is split between the leadership/development of officers (collegiate women) and managing the business aspects of the chapter, e.g., overseeing $1M+ revenue, hiring and overseeing staff, and ensuring compliance with all tax, insurance, and reporting requirements. As part of her advisor role, Jessica attends national conferences where she discusses and presents on topics related to working with millennials and Gen Zers, risk management, harm prevention, and working with campus and community professionals (mandatory reporting laws, etc.). Jessica has received Alpha Gamma Delta’s Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award (2012) and was inducted into the Georgia Tech Greek Alumni Hall of Fame (2017).
