Meunier Carlin & Curfman Attorneys Recognized as 2018 Georgia Super Lawyers and Rising Stars

Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers has named five attorneys from Meunier Carlin & Curfman LLC as a Georgia Super Lawyer or Rising Star for 2018. The firm’s selected attorneys are all listed in the area of Intellectual Property Litigation. Tony Askew, John Harbin and Steve Schaetzel are listed as a Super Lawyer. Katie Bates and David Moreland are listed as a Rising Star.

Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers nominated the attorneys based on an evaluation of several factors, including peer recognition, representative clients, experience, honors and awards, pro bono activity, and positions with the bar. Inclusion on the list is limited to only 5% of the lawyers per jurisdiction.

Tony Askew has more than 50 years of experience litigating patent, trademark and copyright cases across the U.S., including appearances before the United States Supreme Court and the United States International Trade Commission. He has served as the Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia for intellectual property matters since 1983.

John Harbin is a renowned trial attorney with three decades of experience in intellectual property and complex business cases. John has tried more than 30 jury and bench trials in jurisdictions throughout the country and at the United States International Trade Commission. John tries cases in a wide range of technologies, including computer hardware and software, aerospace, industrial equipment, medical devices, biotechnology, and consumer products. John has also appeared as lead counsel before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in several inter partes review (IPR) proceedings.

Steve Schaetzel’s experience includes serving as counsel, including lead counsel, on more than 100 intellectual property cases before both trial and appellate courts. Further, Steve has been involved in dozens of oppositions at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.  Steve has also served as lead counsel on many IPR proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

David Moreland has an electrical engineering background and focuses his practice on litigation, with an emphasis on patent enforcement and defense. His successes include multiple favorable outcomes for clients in fields such as payment systems, business methods, semiconductors, computers, mobile devices and software. David is also well versed in IPR proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Katie Bates is well known for her expertise in defending and asserting the intellectual property rights of her clients. Katie’s ascending career began as a Law Clerk for former Chief Judge Joel F. Dubina of the 11^th Circuit, followed by her continued representation of clients in copyright, patent and trade secret disputes in both federal trial and appellate courts. Additionally, she represents trademark clients in a range of prosecution and transactional matters.
